Inside the Mind of a Delusional Audiophile

A tech journalist in the UK is claiming that changing normal SATA cables in his server (NAS) to a "super sata" cable significantly improved the fidelity the music he played from the NAS.  Anyone with a sense of 'how things work' will struggle with how this can be possible.  Let's make a quick list:

  • SATA is 100% digital, therefore you can't extract more of anything from 1's and 0's.
  • The cable in question merely connects two devices, and there is no conversion performed, therefore no loss will occur in transmission over very short distances (less than 3 ft).
  • The cable in question is supposedly a "super" sata cable, which is not officially recognized by anyone.
I am convinced I am destined to create an audiophile cabling and equipment company (Monster Cable and Bose, I'm looking at you) to milk astounding amounts of money out of these morons. I'd cackle with delight as I live the good life and make it rain on a daily basis.

iPhone OS 4.0

Apple has not been saying much about the upcoming 4.0 release of the iPhone OS.  Last year's 3.0 release brought a couple of much needed features, like search and copy/paste, but the overall functionality of the phone has not changed for quite some time.  Android, WebOS, and the new Windows Phone 7 have all made interface advanced while Apple has stood fast.  One thing I really miss from my Windows Mobile 5 phone (from 4 years ago) is a home screen.  On that screen, which appeared when you unlocked it, was your appointments, missed calls, emails, etc all aggregated.  I think there should be a dedicated 'pane' that has all of your information collected to see at a glance without having to open apps. I created a mockup in PhotoShop to illustrate my point:

Welcome!

This is my new blog.  By new, I mean that I actually had one about 8 years ago before it was cool and made people money.  I will be posting on a number of topics, but they will center around technology and media.  Which just so happens to be my focus for my Master's program, so that should not be a big surprise.  Either way, I hope to provide compelling content that is informative, witty, and sarcastic.

I am also actually committing to this whole Twitter thing, and will be trying to integrate with Facebook too, so complete my transition to Web 3.14 or whatever its called these days.  Exciting!
